Pokemon Generations: The New World (Episode 11)

Sometimes it's best to compromise

You don't really consider that when it comes to evil schemes, but it worked for the first time (that I know of), and we Pokemon fans got to see it in this week's episode!

That's right guys, a Pokemon "exclusive" has come to us in the form of Team Galactic in the Sinnoh Region, where Cyrus chooses to settle with a compromise rather than see his plan through of creating a new world! Talk about making us feel special eh? Team Aqua and Magma should take a leaf out of their book.

The New World continues with the dark and mystery themes we saw back in The Cavern and The Vision, where Teams Aqua and Magma attempt to command Primal Kyogre and Groudon to create their ideal worlds. Of course things didn't work out as some kind of event occurred which intervened with their plans, whether it was a Pokemon Trainer infiltrating the base or the Legendary actually doing their bidding, but then later the Team realise things are not what they seem when it comes to ending the current world to make the one they've been wishing for since the Team formed (not long then?).

So that's pretty much the plot in The New World, except it's in the Sinnoh Region and it's Team Galactic. To make things even better, Palkia and Dialga feature in the episode!! Happy days. I'm glad more Legendary Pokemon are showing up, which also helps give each Region more closure before moving onto the next one (still not happy about not seeing Red and Blue fight). They're only in for like a minute or so as Cyrus wants to use their powers to end the world and create the one he desires, with some of the Team Galactic henchmen standing around and fangirling over Cyrus being able to control the Pokemon. But things don't go so smoothly for them, as Cynthia of the Elite Four arrives with her Garchomp to stop Cyrus, who doesn't really care about anything other than having Dialga and Palkia under his control using items (I have no idea what they are called; feel free to let me know in the comments!). And, that's not all, for Legendary Pokemon #3 of the Sinnoh Region, Giratina, makes its appearance and frees Dialga and Palkia from Cyrus' control, and retaliates in the process by taking Cyrus back to where it came from.

The surprising thing is that Cyrus doesn't seem at all bothered by what's happening around and to him. After Cynthia tells him to stop he just stands there all "I don't care what anyone says I will see the New World so I'll just stand here" and remains like that even after Giratina takes him with it. He's unconscious when he gets there, but wakes up soon after. Back on the surface the rest of Team Galactic at their base are going crazy and try to contact Cyrus, who's just there talking to Giratina and later realises where he is now is the world he's been looking for. Talk about a plot twist.

It's things like that that make Pokemon Generations interesting. It's not about trying to drag something out for 20 odd minutes, but condensing it to 3-5 minutes and using that time in a clever way to add more depth and keep things fresh. That's what I'm liking about this series, and it's not giving any indication of lowering the bar.

I guess now it's time to move onto the next Region, which I think is Unova, but whether I'm right or wrong will be determined in the next episode or until one of you guys comment on my lack of Pokemon knowledge and tell me what the next Region is. Until then!
